Very good choice on Google's end! :) No, I've never purchased any Google Videos, but I've heard the cries/whines in the blogosphere of people complaining...and the reason why DRM-restrictions suck. But yea, this is a good move on Google's part.

Official Google Blog: Some homepage revisions - overall, I like the idea..but I don't like how the search types (News, Video, Images) has been "split"...

Now, the competitors have links to their other "services" across the top navbar, I wouldn't group Images, Web, News, Video, etc. in with "services"...those are merely alternative search areas.

But I'll go on a whim and make a suggestion...I like the new "Universal search" Google is attempting...why not just make the "default" search for "Web" and remove the Video, News, Images, etc search links from the Google Homepage as a whole...because the users will get their content either way on the other end (at the results page). OR, put the tabs/options for News, Images, Video, etc. on the results page, to sort the results between Video,News, Images, etc...but the whole deal with moving Web, Images, Video to the upper-right corner just doesn't "fit" currently..."Products" (or services, I should say) are being grouped with other elements within the "Search" service.

I've been wanting this for a while....the ability to search across ALL platforms of Google, from within one search box is awesome. It makes searching soooo much easier...will this include Google Docs, and bookmarks? Who knows, but I'll be waiting! It's the next best step for global search.

Money News:- Good Old Antennas Pick Up Free HDTV - AOL Money & Finance: According an an article I read on AOL News, HDTV can actually be captured from good-old "rabbit ear" antenna's...kinda funny, since people are payin' big bucks to DirectTV and other various "cable" operators to get this new "High Definition" technology.

According to the article, this over-the-air HD is actually _better_ quality than what the cable and satellite companies offer, since they (the sat/cbl companies) compress the HD data, so they can send out more signals to a wider audience through the same pipes.

If you are into song lyrics this site is really cool. Unlike most lyric sites on the Internet, there are NO advertisements, popups, trackers, or bullshit. It's straight up lyrics. The one thing I love about the site, is the fact that it's a wiki...allowing ANYONE (well, except those viagra spammers, and wiki-vandals...) to add, change, or otherwise modify the artist, album, track pages, and lyrics within the site.

At this point in time, there are more than 24,000 song pages in Lyriki...the site also contains a brief biography and discography listing for each artist.

As of this blog post and according to Google there are 47,900 Lyriki pages in the Google index and 39 sites that link to Lyriki.

OK, I saw a post on Google Groups of some poor guy trying to uninstall Google Toolbar, but was stuck with iSEARCH still.....he was thinking Google Toolbar was ISEARCH...so, I went searching of course...well, it brought me to Wilders Security...a post that mentioned ISEARCH and how supposidely Lavasoft, and well, now Spyware Warrior have gotten "cease & Desist" notices for labeling as "Spyware"....well...if these law firms have enough push to get Lavasoft, and various other anti-spyware apps/companies to remove ISEARCH from their Definitions, I have a feeling MICROSOFT's AntiSpyware is going to be the next best anti-spyware solution. You may ask WHY? Well...obviously, Microsoft has MONEY that Safer-Networking, Spyware Warrior, Lavasoft, etc do NOT have....so who is going to file a lawsuit against a corporation like Microsoft?....kind of lame...

I've always had good luck with the combination of Spybot S&D, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, and then HiJackThis for general analysis...but if these spyware corporations can send off cease and desist letters to get "unlisted" from definitions....NOBODY is safe...and well, as noted above, what's the chance of them going to court against the huge mammoth, Microsoft?

The pool.ntp.org project is a big virtual cluster of timeservers striving to provide reliable easy to use NTP service for millions of clients without putting a strain on the big popular timeservers.
Adrian von Bidder created this project after a discussion about resource consumption on the big timeservers, with the idea that for everyday use a DNS round robin would be good enough, and would allow spreading the load over many servers.

But yea, it's really neat, and very easy to setup on a Windows XP computer (not too sure about Pre-Windows ME setups).

What happens, is pool.ntp.org runs over 800 time servers. By setting up your computer's clock to "sync" with pool.ntp.org, your computer's time will automatically sync every couple of days.

There has been some criticism of the accuracy of the time syncing, since it is the Internet and latency does and will occur...so it's recommended that users' use the pool associated with their geographical location, europe.pool.ntp.org, north-america.pool.ntp.org, oceania.pool.ntp.org, or asia.pool.ntp.org for the most accurate time syncing.

For users running Windows XP, all it takes is a simple command from Start > Run cmd
(Don't get scared, it's the old DOS prompt)

net time /setsntp:pool.ntp.org

(use the proper server name as noted above for your geographical location)

That's all it takes to be synced up and ready to go.

Good enough reason to manage your parents' PayPal/eBay/online banking accounts? Yea...for me anyways. It gets to be a pain in the ass, but with the likes of e-mail forwarding and modifying the From: and Reply-To: headers in gmail, it makes this easy.

Though, I'm gradually sending my parents on their own (lol...sounds awkward don't it), I've set them up with OpenDNS (which partners with PhishTank) dns setup, but yea, I still wouldn't want them to fall for any of the number of PayPal/eBay phishing scams I receive...

Wow...I gotta say this is very genius of google. I don't know exactly how it works...but I was looking for eye care near 32927 and was able to get Port St. John Eye Care to call directly to my house.

The caller ID showed their number, and when the receptionist answered the phone it was just as if I called them, BUT...they must have called ME since my caller ID showed their number...right :P Lol.

Sure, it might be helpful, but a slashdot post reported something malicious with this...since it merely asks for you to enter a phone number, there's nothing stopping you from using it to do prank calls...

What a GENIUS idea! LOL. I love it. I saw this on Fox 35 News last night and it sounded neat from the start...of course, I doubt it would solve any more problems than it would "help"...far better off just dialing STAR-FHP (*FHP) on your cellphone if you see a bad driver on the roadway...that number should go directly to the Florida Highway Patrol guys.

Allows sending files up to 1GB through e-mail. I've used it a couple times, and it's really neat...it's just another form of p2p.

But yea, you enter the e-mail address of who you want to send the file to, browse to your file, and it creates a *.pando file that gets sent to that person. When they receive the e-mail, they simply download the .pando file (which is probably less than 10kb), and they doubleclick the file from their desktop. The Pando program takes care of it from there...back when I used it a couple months back, the file speed seemed very slow...but it was far more reliable than YouSendIt. No worry about your browser session timing out, losing connection overnight, etc.

This is really a neat site. From the site:

Pound Privacy" is a campaign to create the first standard for search engine query privacy. The implementation is fairly straightforward: If you append the phrase "#privacy" at the end of a query on any search engine or site search, your query should not be tracked by IP or cookie, and should not be made public in keyword tools. It is that simple.

This would force the top three search engines (Google, MSN, Yahoo) to create a new parameter so that a search query such as:

dog training #privacy

Would not be "logged"/saved to the user's profile.

As it stands currently, nearly every query you enter into a search engine is saved.

As the campaign states, there would be exceptions/flags put into place, if a user is using a query such as "murder" "suicide" or other "flagged" words alongside the #privacy tag, it would be ignored.

So, lately I've been having some weird issues with IE. I don't think it's viruses or spyware, since i only install trusted software. And well, the crashes usually happen AFTER closing the browser. Something tells me it's Google Web Accelerator, or Macromedia Flash though...

Well, what can I say, I've never been a true fan of firewalls, after my early days of Zone Alarm, then switching from Sygate, to Kerio, and then to Outpost within a week or two's time. Out of the firewalls I tried, I had the most success with Outpost, but it's headed down the road of Norton and Zone Alarm - bloated full of pointless features, and trying to 'cover all bases' so-to-speak. What happened to the days of having one TINY application for each task you required? Now we have firewall features to manage COOKIES, spyware, viruses, and even "securely" delete files, and "watch" our personal information so it doesn't get leaked to prying eyes.

Lesson learned, uninstall those supposed "precious" firewalls, free those pointless system resources, practice safe computing, and stay away from dodgy websites, and only download programs from trusted sources. No need for a firewall, a hardware/NAT router (read:linksys router), with Window XP Sp2 firewall does just fine. And, you won't be woken up at night, or greeted in the morning with "OMG YOU WERE ATTACKED 431 TIMES! Buy our software to stay protected bettar!".

URL Tracer from Microsoft prevents typo-squatting - Download Squad - Though I'm glad to see Microsoft doing something about this...I don't see a need for any application support for this. Why not use the HOSTS file, which is contained on most (if not ALL) Operating System environments, from Mac, Linux, and of course WINDOWS. I don't see the need to have a whole separate application to block stuff like this....though, who knows, maybe they have some secret "opt in", which will allow "reporting" of mis-typed or non-requested pages....though I think siteadvisor.com is a far better solution. I just think Microsoft is getting involved in too much, stick to OPERATING systems, so they OPERATE properly, and leave other companies to worry about crap like this.

Very good review, and the reason I'm still using Internet Explorer 6. Security risks are no risk with Internet Explorer when ran in High security mode. And with the neat Microsoft quick app to "Add to Trusted Zone", I can quickly add a site that I trust, to my trusted zone, to allow it to run javascript/activeX and the like.

I just tried Netscape today, and wow....large download indeed, and when it was done downloading, it asked to install McAffee and some other applications....annoying. And well, I didn't care for the menu response time, or the visual effects.

I'm running XP Pro with the "Classic" theme, and Netscape insisted on using it's crappy color scheme. If I install something, Im expecting it to "fit in" with my current settings.
